With His Stripes, We Are Healed

I want to preface this post by saying this; while this is focused on the Lord being our healer, and that He paid for it with His blood, along with the scriptures to stand on, I believe God will use whatever tool He chooses to heal. I believe that He gave us medical wisdom and knowledge. I have no doubt that He uses our doctors and medicines to heal, as well as providing sources of counseling for our emotional and mental well being. I have prayed many times for the Lord to guide the hands of surgeons as they have performed operations. However, I also believe that Satan will always take that which God has meant for good and try to turn it for his own evil purposes. It is why that no matter how God chooses to heal and lift us up, all praise and thanks must always go to Him and Him alone. No matter the method, HE is the Great Physician.

This post is what I'm going to call an intermission as it is not part of the He Is collection. It is however a post that my spirit keeps urging me to write. It looks at one of the most horrific moments in the life of Christ that translates into one of the most beautiful for us. 39. 39 times lashes were laid across His back. 39 times His flesh was laid open, with His blood pouring forth from those wound. 39 agonizing strikes. If you are wondering as to why they stopped at 39 and didn't lay a 40th, it is because according to Jewish law, no Jew was to be given more than 40 lashes. Forty stripes he may give him, and no exceed; lest if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee. Deuteronomy 25:3 He was given the maximum number, He took it all, so He could give it all.

The purpose of this post, is to give you one verse of healing for each lash. 39 verses for you to stand on for your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual healing. His word is perfect and when you SPEAK, not just read, His word out and put it forth, it will not return unto Him void. He is faithful to fulfill His promises, and these scriptures are our promises. Reach out and TAKE your healing. Accept it, believe it and don't back off of it.

  1. But He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we ARE healed. Isaiah 53: 5

Think about this for a moment. He was wounded and bruised for our sins. For us to have peace, He took our chastisement, with the lashes across His back, He bought our physical healing.

2. But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord. Jeremiah 30:17

3. See now that I myself am he! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand. Deuteronomy 32:39

When I read this scripture, I couldn't help but think of my current favorite praise and worship song, and it ties to the words, "I put to death and I bring to life"

You turn graves into gardens

You turn bones into armies

You turn seas into highways

You're the only one who can

HE is the only one who can can truly heal us, our body, our mind, our spirit.

4. If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. 2 Chronicles 7:14-15

If ever there were a time to pray these scriptures, it is now. Our country is on the fast track to judgment. We are already seeing it, but it's time for the children of God, us, the saved (my people, who are called by my name) it is time for us to stop and humble ourselves once again before our Almighty God. It is time for us to seek His face, truly seek Him, to cry out in repentance for the wickedness of our land. He will heal our nation, He will bring revival, but it is time for us to stop playing games and get serious about repenting for our land. Our God is mighty to save. He is mighty and glorious, but He will not sit idly by when the stench of our nation's sin fills his nostrils. We must stand in agreement together for our nation.

5. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

6. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3

If you are in a place of heartbreak and loss, He paid for the healing of your broken heart. He will bind up the wounds of your heart with His love, mercy and grace. It is paid for.

7. The LORD protects and preserves them— they are counted among the blessed in the land - he does not give them over to the desire of their foes. The LORD sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness. Psalm 41:2-3

If you were to tell me that God doesn't physically heal anymore, I'd have to tell you not to tell my uncle Buddy that. If not for the healing hands of Jesus, my uncle would not be here. I received a phone call a couple of years ago that he had only been given a couple of days to live. That there was nothing the doctors could do for him. That opened the door for the Great Physician to step in and answer the prayers of those speaking and praying the healing Word of God over him. My uncle is alive and well, serving His healer with gladness in his heart, thankful that God's Word is true and that those 39 lashes were for him, as well as every other believer that accepts that healing gift.

8. Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint; heal me, LORD, for my bones are in agony. Psalm 6:2

Have you ever experienced bone pain? It is horrific, and David penned it perfectly. It is agony, and "have mercy on me" is about the only thing that escapes your lips. Pray for those afflicted with any illness that causes their very bones to hurt.

9. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits - who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion. Psalm 103:2-4

This scripture brings up a very important point. Praise the Lord, my soul and forget not all his benefits. While He has made promises to heal us, to redeem us and to love us, we still must shew forth praises of Him. (2 Peter2:9) How can we not praise Him when He has given us so much? We praise Him with a thankful spirit, which is a form of worship.

10. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Isaiah 40:29

He will give us both physical and spiritual strength. He will increase the power of our spirit man to stand even more firm on His word.

11. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

This verse was spoken by Christ. I highlighted them red like you would see in a KJV New Testament because, as the song by DC Talk says, "there is love in the red letters, there is truth in the red letters, there is hope for the hopeless, peace and forgiveness, there is life, in the red letters." He took our heavy yoke and exchanged it for His that is light.

12, He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24

13. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:6

This entire scripture is meat. What type of prayer is powerful and effective? The prayer of a righteous man. How do we become righteous? By our salvation through the confession of our sins. What happens when we confess our sins to other believers and we pray for and with each other? We see healing. Physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, revival across the land healing. A few verses down, in that same chapter, we find yet another set of verses concerning our physical healing, as well as the healing of our spirit, salvation.

14. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. James 5:14-15

15. You restored me to health and let me live. Surely it was for my benefit that I suffered such anguish. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction; you have put all my sins behind your back. Isaiah 38:16-17

16. I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners, creating praise on their lips. Peace, peace, to those far and near,” says the LORD. “And I will heal them. Isaiah 57:18-19

When you read the first phrase of this set of scriptures, it shows that in spite of the fact that they were not serving God, He would still heal Israel and bring them comfort. Even those who do not serve God, cry out to Him in times of affliction, then one of two things will happen. When He provides that healing, they will praise Him, or they will praise a doctor and modern medicine and forget they cried out to a God who answered their cry. There are also times that God's healing is not exactly what we expected or want for US. Sometimes the healing is God taking that person home where they are no longer enduring the physical sickness and pain. We then have to allow Him to restore comfort to us who then mourn the physical loss so that we can rejoice in their spiritual gain.

17. Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. Jeremiah 33:6

18. Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. 3 John 1:2

Do you take time to pray for the health of others, even when they are not sick? Do you take time to pray for the Lord's protection and goodness over them? In this one simple verse, the apostle John shows us that we should be doing just that. We should be speaking blessings over others.

19. And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

Be honest. How many times have you spoken this scripture over yourself concerning physical things? I need my rent paid, my bills paid, My kids need school clothes, oh and that video game system. I really could use a newer car, I've had this one for a while. How often do we confuse our NEEDS with our WANTS and desires? Have you spoken this verse over your health and well being? I need my health to be effective in life. I need a sound mind so that I can hear and understand His word. I need a pure heart so that others can see His light shine forth from me. We have many other needs that are not worldly. The biggest is that we need HIM and when we have HIM we have everything we need.

20. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. Revelation 21:4

I touched earlier that sometimes the way God heals someone is by calling them home. It's a concept that is hard for our finite self to understand. I went through this with the death of my pastor's wife several years ago. She was in a horrific car accident, and while she was at the hospital, the majority of our congregation went and sat in the waiting room waiting for news of her condition. We were a tight knit family, and we filled that little room with our prayers, and in unity we cried out to God for her healing. She was such a powerful woman of God that I just KNEW that she would pull through, that there was no way that God could be done with her here on this earth, that she had more to do for Him. When we received word that she had passed away, I was in shock. I couldn't believe it, I didn't want to believe it and I spent quite a while questioning God as to WHY and HOW could he take her home. That He had to be mistaken on this. There was no way this was possible. But then, something amazing happened at her funeral. Her husband, and a fellow evangelist preached the Word, they offered up her favorite songs of praise, they gave her testimony, and while it was one of the hardest funerals I have ever been to, I watched people get saved AT HER FUNERAL. Through her death, several people gave their lives to the Lord. They saw how she lived her life, she would never bible bash them, but just speak life over them, and when they came to say their goodbyes to her, they said hello to an ever loving God. She was my spiritual mom, and I miss her beyond words, but soon, and very soon, I am going to get to throw my arms around her and rejoice with her before the throne of Jesus, and the tears that are in my eyes as I remember her will be wiped away by my savior.

21. My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Proverbs 4:20-22

What is the bible called? The Word of Life. It brings life and health to our entire being when we apply it to our lives. It is a healing balm for anything that could ever ail us.

22. A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

You have heard it said that laughter is the best medicine, but I will bet that you never would have thought that the roots of that statement came from the Bible. My pastor has said for years that if they devil's got your joy, he's got your goods. Don't let him have your joy. He can only take it if you give it to him.

23. Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you… Exodus 23:25

What happens when we live a life of worship? God will not only heal us and keep sickness away from us, but his blessings will be on our food and water, which restores our nutrition and our health.

24. LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress. Isaiah 33:2

Be our strength every morning. Where do you need strength in your life? What type of strength are you crying out for? He will be your strength EVRER morning. Not just some of them, but all of them.

25. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

We live in a day and age where mental health is a big deal. We have a society that has a revolving door system of "see this therapist and take this pill", but no one seems to be getting any better. It seems that it's by design that they don't. Therapists are paid to tell you just enough to keep you coming back and sitting in their chairs. People are pumped full of chemicals that are supposed to help with their depression but at the same time causes thoughts of suicide as a side effect. Why do they not find peace? Why do they not find the answer to why they are anxious and depressed? Because they are looking for their answers in the wrong place. No one wants to come to the Great Physician and mental health expert. They will say, "I tried that Jesus thing and it didn't work for me." If it didn't work for you, it's because you didn't really try Jesus. You tried religion. Jesus has given us His peace. Not a worldly peace, but a godly, divine, supernatural peace that is tied to the greatest prescription the world has ever been given. The Word of God. Again, God WILL and DOES use therapists and counselors. He will use medications, but He is the true source of peace.

26. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind. Psalm 107:19-21

27. LORD my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. Psalm 30:2

28. The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. Evil will slay the wicked; the foes of the righteous will be condemned. The LORD will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. Psalm 34:17-22

29. I said, “Have mercy on me, LORD; heal me, for I have sinned against you. Psalm 41:4

30. The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23

31. Hear, LORD, and be merciful to me; LORD, be my help. You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy. Psalm 30:10-11

32. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

The Psalms are filled with heartfelt cries of praise and worship, prayers for healing and deliverance, the goodness of God, the sting of the enemy and are simply some of the most beautiful passages of scripture. The writers experienced every type of struggle that you can imagine, and they still cried out to God to be their help and offered up their fervent praises, that have been turned into some of our most popular praise and worship songs.

33. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering. Mark 5:34

Faith is the key to our healing. If we ask, but we don't ask with faith, it's like trying to open a locked door without the key.

34. Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

35. And the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all Luke 6:19

This paints such a powerful picture of Jesus when He walked here on earth. There was so much power coming from him that just touching the hem of his robe provided healing. It's the same for us, we simply have to reach out to touch Him and His healing power will flow over us.

36. Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24

Our words hold power. We are able to use our words to shape things around us. It is why you should speak goodness over others. I'm sure you have heard or seen things about how we talk to our kids and that we shouldn't tell them things like they are worthless or will never amount to anything. This is 100% correct. Do not speak into existence ill over your children, or anyone for that matter. God spoke, and it was. Speak life over your life and everyone in it.

37. Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. Matthew 10:1

If we walk in the fullness of God, then know this. We have been given authority to lay hands on the sick and seem them recover. It does not mean that we are doing any healing. It means that we are standing in faith, that we are standing on the Word and the power of HIS might. If it is His will, people will be healed. Never think it is us. We are simply the vessel that God is using.

38. And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. 1 Corinthians 12:28

39. Come, let us return to the Lord. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bandage us. Hosea 6:1

What type of healing are you praying for? Physical, emotional, mental. for our land, spiritual? We have a mighty weapon to fight with. The Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. (Ephesians 6:17) For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

We are able to call those things that aren't as though they are. (Romans 4:17). It is up to us to pick up this amazing sword and wield it. Now, look at the word sword: S-WORD. You can not spell sword without the WORD!! Our weapon is spiritual. Our weapon is the WORD! You do not go into battle under equipped, He has armed you mightily. He has armed to you fight for your healing. Fight on your knees with the greatest weapon mankind has ever seen.

In the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was God. John 1:1
